Stay at Home Order Extended until May 8th

North Carolina's Stay-at-Home order will be extended by eight days, Gov. Roy Cooper announced during a news conference on Thursday.

Cooper's initial order, which went into effect March 30, was set to expire on April 29. The new order will expire on May 8.

Cooper said his plans to reopen the state will echo the White House's recommendations with a three-phase process. During each phase, officials will be monitoring the number of positive cases and any noticeable spike in cases, the percentage of positive tests and the number of overall hospitalizations due to COVID-19.

"I will not risk the health of our people or our hospitals and easing these restrictions now would do that," Cooper said.

Mecklenburg County issues ‘stay at home’ proclamation as COVID-19 cases climb to 142

“COVID-19 does not recognize boundaries. We must be vigilant,” county officials said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Mecklenburg County issued a stay at home proclamation Tuesday in an attempt to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Mecklenburg County is reporting 142 positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as of noon Tuesday.

County officials say the stay at home proclamation will take effect at 8 a.m. Thursday and will run through April 16. The proclamation will allow residents to go to the grocery store, go to restaurants for takeout, and go outside to “be in nature for exercise," among several other things.
